Star Editor Terms of Use

Effective date: September 22, 2026

These terms cover the Star Editor app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to intimidate.

1. What Star Editor is

Star Editor is a tool that runs on your device. It lets you build a website and publish it to Cloudflare Pages using a Cloudflare account that you own. The app is free. There is no account with us, no subscription, and no purchase.

2. Your content is yours — and your responsibility

Everything you create in Star Editor belongs to you. We claim no rights to it, and we never receive a copy of it.

Because your published site is on the public internet under your own Cloudflare account, you are responsible for what you publish: that you have the right to use the words and images you include, and that your site complies with applicable law and with Cloudflare's terms. If a child is using the app, the adult who owns the Cloudflare account is responsible for what gets published with it.

3. Cloudflare is a separate service

Publishing uses Cloudflare Pages under an account you (or a parent or guardian) create directly with Cloudflare. Cloudflare's own terms of service and acceptable use policies govern that account and the hosting of your site. Cloudflare requires account holders to be at least 18. We are not a party to your relationship with Cloudflare, we have no access to your account, and we cannot restore sites, addresses, or accounts on Cloudflare's side. If Cloudflare changes or discontinues its services or its free tier, the publishing features of Star Editor may stop working; your content remains on your device either way.

4. Emoji artwork

Site icons use Twemoji artwork, © Twitter, Inc. and other contributors, licensed under CC-BY 4.0. The required attribution ships inside the app (Settings → Help → Licences) and in every published site's assets.

5. The app is provided as-is

Star Editor is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ben Simon is not liable for any damages arising from use of the app — including lost content, lost availability of a published site, or anything a published site is used for. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

If, despite the paragraph above, Ben Simon is ever found liable to you for anything connected with Star Editor, that liability — added up across all claims — is capped at fifty U.S. dollars (US $50) or the amount you paid for the app, whichever is greater. The app is free, so that means fifty dollars.

Back up your work: the app includes an export feature, and using it is your protection against device loss.

6. Acceptable use of the app

Don't use Star Editor to break the law, to infringe others' rights, or to publish content that violates Cloudflare's acceptable use policies. The app gives you no way to create an account with us, so there is nothing for us to suspend — but Cloudflare can and does enforce its own policies on hosted content.

7. If your site causes a legal claim, it is yours

If content you publish with Star Editor leads to a claim against Ben Simon — for example, a copyright complaint about images on your site — you agree to defend Ben Simon against that claim and to cover the resulting damages and reasonable legal costs. The same applies to claims arising from your violation of these terms or of someone else's rights. In plain words: the app is the pencil; what you write with it is yours, including the consequences.

8. The App Store's own license

When you download Star Editor from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your copy of the app. If these terms conflict with a right that Apple's agreement guarantees you, Apple's agreement wins on that point. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or for addressing any claims about it.

9. Changes

If these terms change, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after a change means acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Severability and entire agreement

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part is trimmed to the minimum necessary and the rest stays in force. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and Ben Simon about Star Editor; nothing said anywhere else adds to or changes them.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
